Carmen Melián

Carmen Melián founded Melián Arts in 2014, a full service international Art Advisory and Appraisal Service with a focus on Latin American Art, helping private, corporate and museum clients collect, evaluate, buy, sell and manage their collections. Melián Arts is based in New York with a wide network of collaborators around the world.

Carmen Melián has had an over twenty five year career in the international art world and is recognized  as one one of the leading specialists in the field of Latin American Art. 

Ms. Melián  was the Director of the Nohra Haime Gallery, one of New York’s premier galleries of Latin American Art from 1983 -1994. She then worked privately as an advisor and consultant, organizing the first visiting museum and VIP program for Art Miami in 1999. Carmen Melián joined the international auction house Sotheby’s, serving as Specialist, Director, and Senior Specialist of the Latin American Art Department in New York. During the next fifteen years,  she was key in organizing, sourcing, selling and marketing  bi-annual auctions with over 50 million dollar in yearly sales. The Latin American auctions covered work produced over the past five hundred years, produced in over fifteen countries. 

Ms. Melián has served as Adjunct Professor, New York University, School of Professional Studies, teaching the Latin American Art Seminar since 2002. Ms. Melián is active in writing and lecturing on Latin American Art.

Born in the Philippines and educated in Asia, Europe and the United States, Ms. Melián is fluent in English, Spanish and French. She is a member of Arttable, an international organization of women in the arts, and the Appraisers Association of America.
